Innovation - research and development

Kennametal was founded on the strength of a particular innovation, and has continued to invest heavily in research and development ever since. More than 700 highly trained and innovative research scientists and development engineers are hard at work right now. They are creating new advanced materials for demanding applications and are designing proprietary components that deliver superior performance for our customers.

Kennametal’s R&D efforts lead to an average of 30 U.S. patents every year. Many of these find commercial applications, with more than 40 percent of Kennametal’s revenue coming from products less than five years old. Sure, we have plenty of tried and true solutions to choose from. But no one is better at improving them, replacing them or leapfrogging them.

Our $30 million Technology Center in Latrobe, Pa., and complementary facilities around the world ensure our customers will maintain the technological leadership we’ve helped them attain. Each of these facilities, in Germany, India and across the U.S., is dedicated to the rapid development of solutions engineered to meet specific customer requirements.
